Papahetfield, The DMDC is not stainless or coated. Like any other steel if left exposed to the elements it will rust. Stainless steel will even rust. I've had Stainless rust. It's very light and will wipe off with a rag but make no mistake it will rust.

You will need to use something on the DMDC after use. Especially in a humid enviroment. The Tuf-Cloth appears to be the best product for the job.

Just like you do preventive maintainence to your automobile or yard or firearms, it makes sense to also do so with these knives.
