I really like my Remington 597. Remington made a huge mistake by releasing this gun with magazines that wouldn't feed right. They have now fixed the problem but they did a huge amount of damage to the rep of this gun by shipping them out with crappy magazines.

I've had very good results with the bulk Federal ammo packs (36 grain, copper plated hollow points). I get better groups with it than 10/22's I've shot and I'm not sure if he's a crappy shot (I think he is) but I've been out shooting my buddy that has a Marlin bolt action .22.

My only problem with the 597 is the trigger. Its a pretty heavy pull for a .22 trigger but an easy fix is to get an aftermarket VQ hammer. From my reading this will cut the trigger pull in half and greatly improve the feel.
