oh yea another ? - does rust damage the strength of the break... for example, if its on the edge of the blade, does that make it more prone to chipping or breaking?
It would have to have some really serious rust...deeply pitted and then it would just require a some sharpening.
This sounds like a little bit of surface rust, common on bare non stainless steel. A quick swipe with fine steel wool will take care of it...you can add a drop of oil..but most likely not needed. Since it is the edge, stroke down and away from the blade...avoid the thought of running with the edge.
