Yeah, I stopped by the post office today, and mine aren't in yet.

Card hasn't been charged yet either. My invoice was #298*

Still waiting here..my credit card haven't even ding yet. My order number is 29##, what's yours?

I received mine this week, but my order number was below 2900. The way I read this 3/9/08 post by Dan, they sold 114 DMDCs more than were on-hand the first night: Run Run DMDC… Another Shot. The plan is that those orders, plus the ones from the following Tuesday, will be filled from a second production run as soon as the new Scrap Yard facility is set up in Ohio. However, those orders will be filled at the $79.95 price; the remainder of the second run DMDCs will sell for $99.95.

Hopefully, once things get settled, Dan and Patti will provide a guess-timate of how long it'll be before the the second run begins shipping. You've simply got to be ready, quick, and perhaps a bit lucky to be assured of placing an order; most of the recent Scrap Yard offerings have sold out within an hour. When Dan says they're going up, you need to clear your schedule to get in at the release price, or in this case to avoid waiting a while. You're not alone though; several folks will be watching for news about that second run.

I hope that nobody feels I'm being insensitive; I'm just trying to pass along some information to help people avoid missing out. When Dan posts sale notices, they generate a lot of interest, not just within the yard, but also among people who know that they'll have no problem turning a quick profit on the secondary market -- it's as close to a sure thing as you'll ever see, they day they start arriving is the day you'll begin seeing them selling for more elsewhere. I think Bors coined this phrase, but you'll do well to take it to heart for future releases: There are two kinds of dogs, the quick and the hungry.

Read the link Jim posted. If you ordered on March 11th or were in the last 114 in the first offering it will be 4 to 6 weeks. I know it sucks....but the knives Dan builds for us are worth the wait.

I ordered the first day it came out, in the first opening. My credit card was pending, then the charge was canceled... and no notice of the cancellation from scrap yard...

I've sent them three emails... no response after nearly a month...

Anyway, since I have an invoice that rings up the knife with the discount price, I'm assured of getting a knife. If they suddenly claim that my knife as not secure... well, things are gonna get ugly. Hahaha jk, I'm just impatient...

et tu, customer service!

I am a HOG from the old school so I understand how the sales work and I know first hand about the wait time. I also know that they are worth the wait.

The only thing that made me think I was in the first run is that I paid through paypal and they have had the loot since the day I ordered....that's all.

I don't want the money back. And I don't mind the wait.

I just wanted to know if there was anyone else still waiting.

The wait will give me time to break in a couple that have been begging for use...

I was a bit concerned about that myself; whenever possible, I pay using my Discover card (for the cash back), but via PayPal so that I don't have to provide the card number to vendors. Then I pay my full balance at the end of the month to avoid paying interest. The downside to that approach is that if there's a delay, as in this case for your entire order and for the sheaths in mine, I end up fronting money versus if I'd paid by credit card using the vendor's process, where they must wait until products ship to execute charges.

You're right....I'm just grumpy today. And I REALLY thought I was in on the first order so it burns me to see guys who did get in just turning around and selling them.

Not enough sleep I think. I'll get over it. Just ignore me.

I havent gotten my DCDM and I STILL havent gotten my refund from the DogFather run, or any reply to my emails. I'm getting pretty fed up with this, they dont even provide a phone number to their customers, it's pretty unprofessional to be so untimely with a refund and have no lines of communication open.

Whoa there, no need to get fussy. If you haven't been told, Dan, his entire family, and the company had to move several hundred miles to Ohio. It's gonna take time for them to get things settled in.

Also, for the DMDCs, depending on which batch you get, 1st or 2nd, will be different. If you were in the first batch they have been shipped and should be there soon. The second batch doesn't ship for another 3-4 weeks, maybe more.

Patience.

If it makes you feel better. I was never able to even get one and I don't even own a single Scrap Yard Knife.

to be honest, i'd be pretty upset in his position. try to see it his way.

maybe it wasn't the best idea to release a knife in the middle of the big move. we were all prepared to wait. throw in the complication of production not being complete and the store not working properly, it was a risky endeavor. dan wants to keep us happy, but that sometimes means he'll be stretching farther than he can reach.

guess all these business courses are gettin to me.

My problem isnt with not getting the DM yet, it's with them holding onto several hundred dollars of my money for well over a month already, not replying to emails and not providing a phone number like any other reputable business. The fact that I have no clue whether my knives are in the mail or if they'll be holding onto more of my money for another month doesnt help either.

All I'm saying is that it isnt professional, and if you disagree then we have some pretty irreconcilable differences in our definition of professional.

your frustration's justified, sketchbag. the success of businesses these days is based more on customer service and satisfaction than product quality. dan's move to ohio, plus the growth we've been hearing about, will probably lead to an improvement in the service department at scrap yard. better organization, more people to run the store and ship the knives, and faster production.

until now, it's pretty much just been patti. great as she is, the lower price of scrappers means higher demand so they need more hands on deck. hence the move. i know it's irritating waiting for them to get to it, but i'm sure they will. that's probably little comfort but it's all i can offer.

I feel for you guys who don't have yours yet. But I wouldn't get too worked up over any that are up for sale already. Unless of course you ordered several with the hopes of marking them up and putting them up on the exchange right away, in which case I would say that you are less upset about not having a knife and more upset about missing a business opportunity. That is not directed at anyone, just a general observation. If your name is in the hat for one, you will get it, patience is absolutely necessary when dealing with a new branch of the Busse Knife Group tree. Dan and Patti have one heck of a logistical mess to deal with along the way and probably have many more things come up as they settle. They could have just as easily dangled the DCDMs in front of us before the move and not offered them until they were completely settled. How crazy would that have made us?

Sketchbag, you have a legitimate gripe, but don't be surprised if some of these guys are defensive on behalf of Dan and Patti. When I first started collecting Busse Combat knives, a 4-6 week wait would have been more than welcome, heck for some of them a 4 month wait would have been welcome. I can only imagine how much lag time there will be as they get settled in OH.

In the future I would suggest not paying with paypal as it seems to drag your funds out right away. I know that the funds are there and you want to use them. I got one of their debit cards attached to my account, I can pay using my paypal balance even at places on the net who don't take paypal. The seller puts a hold on your funds, so they are essentially unavailable for use, but they are still yours until the charge is completed.

Again I caution patience and cool heads. If you get easily worked up and expect instant gratification (thanks to our modern society), then buying a Busse of any kind may not be a good idea for you. All will work out and for those who have dropped between the cracks, I am more than sure Dan and Patti will compensate you for the trouble, I have never dealt with a more conscientious group as I have found in the Busse clan.

All I'm saying is that it isnt professional, and if you disagree then we have some pretty irreconcilable differences in our definition of professional.

I don't know much about money or credit cards but...
I do know that you obviously don't have the knowledge (on this issue in particular) to suggest what you think is or isn't professional.
thats a pretty harsh statment considering what it seems you know.
you still have the right to say it I guess.
but here I go.

this is the way it works.
this is a small family run bussiness thats is growing everyday and I'm sure it's pretty hard to handle.
aside from that patti really does a great job.
anyways, the knives were said they were going to be shipped in 4 to 6 weeks.(what has it been? like 3 weeks?)
I don't see whats so hard to understand about this!
there were two releases, the people getting thiers now are the ones who got thiers on the first.
and I THINK some who got it on the first release will have to wait 4-6 weeks too, because they sold more than expected.

and if you havn't noticed on the forum, they are mocing right now and JUST now are able to get in communication with people.
they told us this multiple times.

I'm sure they don't have a phone number to call because they're moving, and unless I'm mistaken it's only been about 2 weeks since they've shipped and they've had your money for less than a month.
are you planing on spending it or something?
I don't think a bussiness could just trust that people will have the money when the knife is shipped.

you payed for the knife (or knives) and you'll get it.
I don't know much about this, but I'm pretty sure there is nothing wrong with holding on to the money that is theirs.

and if you think for a second that scrapyard isn't a reputable bussiness (not saying you said that) than I suggest finding one that fits you're definition of that,
because I'm not at all sure their is one that will match your definition.
scrapyard has given plenty of notice and told exactly what is happening and when you will get your knives.

you should probably look around the forum (pages 3-6 are loaded with this information that you probably lacked. if you didn't lack that information then I'm REALLY confused what you're so mad about) before making a strong post like that.

I'm sorry, I just don't understand your being frustrated at all.

I guess I hit every point I wanted to make (some maybe more than once) and I might be a little off on a few things (I'm sure if I am the dogs will correct me) but... yeah.

I DO understand maybe your lack of understanding on the subject though, I was pretty confused at first too.
but you can't make strong statements if you don't know.

and I'm sure Dan and patti will not let you down.
relax, it'll make the wait easier.

I was mad when I thought they were holding my money for the dogfather return, but normally they just kind of hold the money (like you said) and when they let it go, it doesn't like... show up as going back into your account, it just goes back in cause they haven't actually "taken" the money yet.

I was kinda upset about the dogfather thing, but they went really fast so, what do you expect?

but the DMDC, idk what your complaining about honestly...

and thats just my opinion and it's just your opinion.
(even though pretty harsh and unjustified to me)

oh and sorry about not being able to explain the credit card stuff to you, I don't handle that stuff, but it happened to my mom.
they never really "HAD" the money, so to speak, so if you're spending, you might not notice it got put back.

You dont understand because you obviously have some kind of reading comprehension problem, as you've missed the point entirely.

Ive already made it perfectly clear that my problem isnt with not having the DCDM yet. I'm not going to bother reiterating myself because if you couldnt understand the first time repeating it isnt likely to help.

sorry, but I just wanted to add the extra info in case you might question it later.
I figured it might save some time.

I still see no problem, it's that you don't have any contact with them?
well I explained that too.
because they have your money??
if they do infact have the money from the DFCG release I could understand.
but for the DMDC I don't.

but anyways, you can contact them now so hopefully it gets settled.
I guess I still don't really understand the problem though, but if you don't want you don't have to bother trying to explain it to me.
I'm normally a little slow at understanding things anyway so, it could be frustrating for you.

hope this gets solved.

I am with sketchbag on this one. I understand his problem and complaint. I am in the same sort of position. I do business with a large number of knife makers and the most important aspect(other than the quality of the knife) is there ability to service and provide communication to the customer. If Patti or Dan would have simply returned an email there would more than likely not have been an issue. We are all adults here as well as customers. All that I ask for is to be treated with respect.

My issue is about communication. I have had an issue since the DF release and have yet to receive a response from anyone at SY. That was way before we were notified about the move. I don't care about the money as much as I do about the lack of respect by not returning a returned email. Don't get me wrong the money is important, I am only a E-6 on active duty and money isn't exactly falling off the trees.

Also another thing that is bothering me is the personal attacks on this forum. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. It is not fair to attack someone because you do not feel the same way. It seems that a lot of the members on this forum feel it is there duty to defend or protect SY knives. The owners are responsible for this not the members of a forum. I am sure that if anyone of us went and bought something and had to take it back and received a "blank look" from the salesperson they would be a little aggravated. That is basically what is happening to sketchbag and myself.

Patti finally initiated the refund from the dogfather order, 49 days latter.

I understand theyre in a move, but excuses and good intentions dont change the facts. The professional thing to do would be settle all accounts and unfinished business first, and in lieu of that at least a courtesy email informing those with pending business that they'll be incommunicado rather than leaving it up to the customer to wonder why they're not getting any reply.

If anything I'd describe the whole thing as being disorganized and haphazard, but if thats your ideal of business done professionally I pity you for the experiences that led you to that conclusion.

I'm just telling it how it is, it isnt a slight against Dan and Patti personally and there's no reason for anyone here to be all defensive about it. Theyre not infallible, their company isnt a perfectly oiled machine, and there's no need to pretend otherwise. Trying to deny legitimate customer feedback isnt going to help improve things either.

If Dan and/or Patti feel that my opinion is out of line than they can say so and I can take my business elsewhere, but I dont need to argue with someone who 1) doesnt know all the details and 2) doesnt even understand the details presented, over whether or not I have a "legitimate" gripe.

Easy fellas. Everyone is entitled to their opinions.

I'm sorry I started this mess.

Not to go off on a tangent, but I've noticed some people really zealously defend Scrap Yard in a fanboy like manner. Maybe these people think that Dan and/or Patti are incapable of handling it themselves and that theyre doing them a favor, but that couldnt farther from the truth. If anything those people just deter others from frequenting this forum, and considering how heavily dependent ScrapYard is on the this forum for doing business all it accomplishes is chasing people off. It's not like these people have the means of resolving the issues at hand, all they do is exasperate the situation.

I never really did see many personnal attacks on this forum...
???
if you saw any of my posts as attacks I'm really sorry, well can you really blame me for being defensive?
and I tried to make the post not sound like a personnal attack, although it does sound like one.
I guess I'm just a little over sensitive, but when someone starts talking about how unprofessional and unreputable of a bussiness scrapyard is (on their own forum!) I almost feel it's a personnal attack on me.
(even though it's not)

and also, if you're going to maybe complain a little, you might want to give more details, because if you don't it leads to people questioning your post.
maybe you thought you gave enough, but at first you really didn't for me at least.

and thats why I assumed you didn't know what was going on, because I didn't really have enough info.

also, no need to pitty me, I've never experienced that kind of customer service before.
probably because latley the yard has been growing soooo rapidly and my last release I got in on was the yardkeeper.

I know they have been really busy SINCE the DFCG release (thats when things started to move way too fast and get pretty confusing for most people)
and that it might just be time for patti to get some help around here!

well I hope everything works out.
and also, sorry that I was a little too (wayyyyy too) sensitive on the issue.
obviously, I'm a little.. um... slow.
so thanks for bearing with me and informing me.
(because I really felt I should have been informed)

emf, it's best you just let this go and not comment anymore. It's only making it worse. Normally, a company does not charge the credit card until the product ships(cc company policy) however if they used Paypal to pay then the money is immediately removed from the buyers account. Just an FYI.

For what it's worth I think they have a legitimate beef with Scrapyard. I have had to go to extraordinary lengths to get a reply. Scrapyard has a VERY aggressive SPAM filter and I was not able to get an email through to them from any of my six email accounts. They really do need a phone number to call for customer service or remove the SPAM filters and deal with all the junk mail.

jforbush and sketchbag, I'm sorry this has happened to you, but Dan and Patti are good people and will take care of you. I'm sure they will work to correct the bugs in the ordering system and customer support as well.

the fellas here on the Yard busted my balls a while back for constantly whining about missing out... here is what i learned... when you are a fan of the best knives made, and though there arent thousands of us, there are dedicated to the death fans of this knife co. and with that kinda following, you are going to miss out form time to time... dont bitch or whine like i used to. it just causes unrest on the Yard and its a better place without it man. im not busting your balls im just saying man, i feel your frustration, just hang in there... im with ya.. hell we are all with you when we miss a knife release. but you will get yours sooner or later.

Wow. Been a busy thread!

EMF - You totally missed sketchbag's point. His major, very valid complaint is the outstanding DF refund.

Sketchbag - Really glad to hear the refund is being processed. When you pay by CC through the store here, your card isn't actually charged until Patti processes your order. There is a preauth done, however it doesn't actually post a charge to your card. You are just giving Patti permission to ding you when the time comes. With paypal you send the money right away & then Patti has to manually do a refund.

You will find a lot of fans of both the products & the service here. This stems from dealings with both Dan & Patti. The community as a whole supports itself here & I believe the intention of most was to hopefully reassure you that things will get them selves sorted out out!

Ahhh... I see now. I know that feeling. Not good at all.

I had 400 dollars on hold for a gun that was suppose to get repaired but didn't. Took 6 months to get every penny back. No dealings with the company cause they wouldn't refund me either. Credit card company did most of the financial fiasco.

Back to the OP -
I still haven't gotten my DMDC order yet, and my credit card hasn't been hit.

Anyone else still waiting on thiers?

I'm thinking everything is still good, but it's been a few weeks, and am yearning for assurances if nothing else ;-)

The one month update. One month since I ordered and paid through paypal. Nothing yet.

I remember the first Busse family knife I ordered was the ratwieler. It took six months to come...No lie six months.

By the time it came I had like 10 Busse's a few Swampies.

No worries and no regrets. As long as it comes in time for me to take some pics for the contest.

Well, Patti finally got back to me, saying she would look into it. I don't want to rekindle what seems to be a concluded debate, but I will say that I'm kinda in sketchbag's camp on this one. Today marks the 1 month anniversary of ordering my DMDC still no knife. It's also been nearly a week since patti told me she was looking into the issue. Oh well, if there's one thing to be happy about, its that I have a bunch of other really super knives to watch my back until the DMDC arrives, namely the RMD, RD7, and RTAK-II

they did clearly say 6 weeks before all the orders would be filled.... Like several guys have posted, a lot of products at this level of quality and performance take MUCH LONGER to get. I had to wait 7 months for my Benelli while they filled the military order first. I don't have any problem with that. It still came and it still rocks. well worth the wait.

sketchbag was more upset about the DFCG money actually.
(if I would have really realized that earlier I would have not looked like SUCH a TOTAL jack Arss)
but, there could be a shipping problem with your DMDC or something.
hope it gets to you soon though!

OK......

Like CRPOC, I got my confirmation on 3/9. That means we're barely over 6 weeks now.

My credit card still hasn't been charged (just checked on-line) - is it time to be concerned yet?

heh me too brother. I apparently missed the first batch by a few orders, but I have a reserved spot on the second batch. That said, I'm itching to get my hands on a my SY steel. I'm hoping that when they announce the selling of the next batch, it'll mean that those of us that are waiting will get our knives

Hey there seven, hows it going bro, who knows when we are going to hear anything, I got in at the 79.95 price but have yet to hear anything. It has been 6 weeks since I ordered so I imagine we should hear something soon.

Two weeks...like the Money pit. No worries...I got so antsy that I went out and scored these to hold me over.

History trivia about the "2 weeks"

It actually refers back to when Jerry had announced that the folder was going to be officially announced in 2 weeks. That was either 4 or 6 years ago now and still no announcement. From that, "2 weeks" has become the running joke for any time frame and pretty much means that it will get here when it gets here!

Did we just pass the seven week mark?

This is just like the old days. When 2 weeks really did mean someday...

I've scored another old school meaner street and a Boney active duty....that make 10 since I ordered this one...

the discouraging part is that will all this waiting for the DMDC, just think how long we are going to have to wait for the new release. I am guessing though that this is not a full time gig for Dan, so he may be busy elsewhere

Try this again. Should be soon. I received this message from Patti, 04-24-08:

"Anyways, the order didn't make it into the first batch, so it is scheduled to go out with the second. I believe the second batch should be done in about 2 to 3 weeks. We got behind due to illness.

I will keep you posted."

Yeah, I'm still waiting too. My charge card hasn't taken a hit yet, so I guess that's the silver lining.

It's gonna be embarassing if I have to take off for the CQB course in a few weeks - with an empty knife sheath. OK, so that's an exageration - I've got other stuff to fill that spot, but I was HOPING to have the DMDC.

On the other hand, my credit card did get hit last month for the first Busse Combat I've ever ordered. Haven't seen it yet though - maybe the postal service takes longer from there to here ;-)

Yup!

I hope it gets here before the end of the month. Elsewise I'll have to have someone watching my post office box while I'm gone. Not convenient or fun.

Now if someone could light a fire under Botach tactical for me too......

I had a lot of problems with Botach. After several weeks of back and forth, in the end I had to threaten them with credit card fraud to get my stuff. I wouldn't EVER buy anything from them again. This was several years ago though so maybe they've cleaned their act up. Either way, they'll never see me again.

Hmm, we can hope so. When it was first delayed, i said to myself jokingly "I hope i get it before summer break"... well, not looking like much of a joke now. But all the same, if they released it with the MPLE, that'd be fine. The funny thing is, if they'd just given us some kind of information first place (like what month we can expect our knives), no body would be frustrated. its just the not knowing, eh? And it isn't terribly encouraging that, considering we're all waiting for the next batch of DMDC's, they seem to have skipped over the DMDC and gone onto the MPLE's. Oh well, people here on the forum, who i respect a great deal, have told me not to worry so I wont.

I agree Cloak, I actually am not worried at all, nor am I over anxious, my thing is I am trying to budget for it,and not the mple as well as hcle and I can't do that if I don't know for sure how long. They said it was 4 to 6 weeks, we are now on like week 8 or 9 without word. Again I am fine, just hope I have the money when she rolls in.

That's why I'd rather be dinged for it right away. I don't use credit cards...just don't like them so everything I do is out of paypal or on a debit from my checking account.

I'd rather the money come out so I don't have a pile of cash in the bank that is already spent...get it out of there and I'll just wait for the knife.

As this is the only knife I have ever successfully ordered from SY directly (others came from Blade West), I hate to say this, but it has been so long I actually forgot I had one ordered until this thread reminded me. I found a quote that I bet Jerry Busse read at one time.

"In order to make a man or boy covet a thing, it is only necessary to make the thing difficult to obtain." Mark Twain.

Does this business model qualify?

Glad to see I'm not the only one !

I've had a bit of trouble obtaining a knife from the Yard in the past (the first one got lost!.....and they had sold out, so I couldn't get a replacement.)

But the DFLE got here in record time.

I'd intended on giving one of my two DCDM's for a Father's Day present, but we'll see if that'll happen.

Dan, any update?

.

Yeah, I ship out a week from tomorrow for the annual combat training. My guess is that I'm not going to have it for this two-weeks of "fun in the sun".

If I'm lucky, it won't come while I'm gone, and get turned back :-(

I think there are several reasons for that, nightowl, not the least of which is server performance. On the other hand, I remain optimistic that Dan's move to Wauseon means that more releases, higher levels of production, and possibly expanded distribution are on their way. When that happens, the Dogs will have a lot to howl about.

No insult intended, just a bit frustrated. ... and Dogs always howl...

Cute! I believe that when nightowl says he's from the GreatSouthLand, he's not referring to Southern California.

Right you are, Down Under it is.
Southern California has remained a dream only. Picked up my first real bits of English (I am swiss by birth) as a traveller working the Date Palms in Israel sharing time with a guy from San Diego, loved listening to his stories.
All the songs I've heard about California started to create a real picture in my head. All that some 30 years ago.
Cheers

Hmm, rather than start a new thread for the express purpose of whining about my as-of-yet-unarrived DMDC, I figured I'd just post here. For those of you still waiting, are you also a bit unnerved at the sight off these new releases when we STILL haven't gotten our knives? I mean, prepping for blade-show is one thing (I can understand that its a huge profit for them), but giving the show priority is still putting profits ahead of customer satisfaction (which goes against every reason why someone would choose to buy from a small business). Oh well, I guess thats capitalism for you. Anyway, I've heard from the big dog that we should be getting them soon, but its still kinda freak'n me out.

i don't know... I really like both Dan and Patti personally, as well as Scrap Yard knives, but when you order something and then are left waiting... wow, almost three months now? Its just... difficult

anyway, hope I didn't cross the line with any of that, just stating facts as I see them

See, not to rebel against my elders or anything, but I don't really accept that. If I were waiting for a Busse or custom knife, I'd be okay with it. But I'm not. I'm waiting for an admittedly top-of-the-line semi-production knife. When I ordered my knife, most people expected them in 10 days and received them in about that amount of time. There's really no reason why it should take this long, especially considering that there has been plenty of time for them to design and realize two new knives. I know how much you all hate it when people say "I'll take my business elsewhere", so I won't use that line and i don't plan to actually do any such thing, but you have to imagine what this kind of experience would do to someone who isn't as loyal as I am. I mean, heck, Justin at Ranger Knives has a much smaller shop and made my custom RD7 in three weeks. Personally, I think they should say on their website: "expect long delays in shipping" and provide a lot more information throughout the process. I don't want to spark an arguement here, but I think if you take your (and my) affection for scrapyard knives and their personnel out of the picture and look at this objectively, you'll see that things aren't perfect. Not bad, but also not perfect

I hope no one takes this personally, I love you all! But in the same way you all talk about "back in the day", I'm trying to give you a perspective from a new customer's standpoint.

cloak, you're 100% right. you have nothing to apologize for and no reason to be so soft and forgiving with your words other than your good character. there is no excuse for this, those knives have simply been put on the back burner and it is bad business, plain and simple.

Cloak, Magnum, it gives me no pleasure to agree with you. But I do. It’s true that Scrap Yard Knives is a small business using an eccentric business model. It’s true that moving from one state to another merits cutting Dan some slack. But putting the DMDCs on indefinite hold while releasing two new models is just not okay. Abusing knives is one thing. Abusing your loyal customer base is something else.

I’ve read complaints on BladeForum about unanswered emails and difficulties doing business with the Yard. “It looks like they make good knives, but I can’t be bothered dealing with them until they get their act together.” At this point it’s hard to defend the Yard. It feels rather like defending a dysfunctional family.

I hope this doesn’t come across as a flame. I write it because somebody needs to. If nobody points out the problems, there is no incentive to fix them.

Scrapyard is a growing small business and like all growing small businesses is going through a period of growing pains. I won't defend the position of new knives versus fulfilling pending orders because it's hard to justify. However, I can understand how a shift of priorities at the Wauseon factory could cause something like this to occur. This is something Dan will have to manage with his brother. Being co-located at the Wauseon factory has to be a better environment for managing production priorities than trying to do so remotely from Houston. Dan's a bright guy and I'm optimistic that this situation will fix itself in due course.

On the positive side, Dan has been listening the Yard's pleas for some smaller knives and has responded with some nice new products for us. Though the timing of the new releases is somewhat awkward, good things are indeed happening.

At the end of the day each of us has to take measure of our own patience. There are many, many knives and knifemakers that we can spend our money with if we truly want/need to purchase a knife right away.

the hierarchy doesn't really apply to this case. these knives were available, sold, and remain unshipped. i've been told to accept flaws because "that's just the way we are" before and i know you don't believe that's a good excuse. being "said before" makes no difference when latency itself is the problem. the longer it takes, the bigger the problem, and the more should be said.

I'm not whining because i want my knife. i ordered two on proxy and none for myself. from the beginning of this thread i was trying to offer comfort and assurance to those who had issues with their order and i now feel that the threshold has been crossed, enough's enough, and they should be upset. busse combat doesn't do business this way. a ganza, in which two people manually sort through a flood of e-mails, respond individually, bill individually by phone, and then mail them, should not have been completed from start to finish in a fraction of the time it took to get those DCDM's out.

Looks like it will be sometime after Blade boys.

Oh well...I'll score a few knives at blade and then come home to another...

no regrets....

They haven't been "sold" until they charge your card.........

and mine remains uncharged, so I can deal with it a bit longer.

Of course Dan has the capacity to finish the DMDC order, Mike. You and I have been around here long enough to KNOW he'll do that. But as Tom said, business is business. I'm sure the order simply got sidelined by the Blade Show.

You know me well enough to know that I'm no Pollyanna. But if everybody just takes a deep breath and gives it a few more weeks, I have NO DOUBT that the DMDCs will arrive in good order. And take it from me. They're worth waiting for.

As Tom likes to say, Keep the Faith!

i am still waiting and waiting and waiting. it's hard not to get frustrated when a knife is sold to you and you wait and wait and see dan release to new knives, when i'm still waiting on mine. Moving shop up to Ohio could be great for the yard, it could also be the thing that kills it. Many Many Many companies have been tremendous small companies, and as they became more popular, grew their business, and grew it some more until they weren't a small company any more. Once you leave that small business world, things sometimes happen and you lose that special something you once had.

i hope that's not what's happening here. It's June now. Dan knows who is still waiting on knives. Would it really be that much trouble to put together a blast email to us saying, hey i know i'm running late but i'm working on it and here's an updated timetable.

Yes, still waiting. I feel your pain, Wiggitty, my card was charged almost three months ago. Watching unsold knives get taken to a convention . . . makes me envious. I don't know what else to say, hopefully something comes my way.

I'm with you 100% Wiggitty, it gets frustrating with all the new releases but still no knife in the mail. I, too, share you small/large business concerns, especially with the acquisition of Ranger Knives by Ontario Knife company. All of my PM's to the company have gotten responses like "we'll keep you posted". I wish I had known that it would take this long, because i could have bought one on the secondary market months ago. oh well, I managed to regain my patience once i realized that the blade show was holding things up (not that I buy that as an excuse for not handling customers), but now... i just hope it comes soon.

My last email reply of Patti was on the 19/04/08 saying a couple of more weeks or earlier.
Mine already is paid for.
Say what ever but I'd be out of business if I do that to my customers!!!!

Beside delay my 5 emails of today all got returned as not being able to be delivered.... and the last one just got bounced as well, so much for communication......

Well, I really feel like saying a lot more but better leave it at this.... certainly not a happy customer!!

Yes, I think there are a lot of bitten tongues around here. The loyalty shown by the Dogs says something . . .

My money has been held for 3 months now. Compounded daily, that adds up to . . .

My emails have been returned for two weeks now, but somehow Patti sent me a message in there as well. It was nice to hear a response but the whole process feels so disconnected. An official post on this forum and/or answering posted questions about delays would ease a lot of frustration.

I'm kinda with Johnson on this one. I'm not bothered that I haven't received my DCDM yet, but a good solid update on the current status would be nice. Seeing how we placed our "orders" about 2 to 2 1/2 months ago and the expected delivery was 4-6 weeks, an update would be greatly appreciated. I'm sure the move and Blade have contributed a lot to this. Every other order I've placed with Dan and Patti has been shipped quite promptly, so I really think the move and Blade caused a lot of this. Well, hopefully Dan or Patti can hear the whimpering of the dogs out here and give us an update.

Bruce - Dan said that he is VERY aware of the problems and they are working on them. He was telling me about some of the headaches they have had trying to satisfy the different states and "jumping through their hoops". There is a LOT more to moving a business from one state to another than most folks - like ME - realize! And that's not even counting their personal move!
I really understand the anger and frustration of a few of our fellow Dogs, but as I keep saying - keep the Faith Brothers!!! Tom

I received a shipping notice last night, which I opened this afternoon. I'm waiting on DM sheathes, so I hope that's all this is about, but the notice listed my entire order.

The thing is, I was one of the fortunate ones who already received my knives. I tried sending an email to sales@scrapyardknives.com and to patti@scrapyardknives.com, but got bounce notices for both addresses. I've sent Dan a PM to verify that they're only sending sheaths -- not that one can ever have too many knives, but I've already received all the DMDCs I paid for.

Tom: You're the Man -- thanks for helping me out with those puppies.

Still waiting. Emails bounced; the issue of undelivered product that has been sold has still not been addressed by the company via email or on this forum.

Communication would ease a lot of frustration. Anger hasn't settled in yet.

That is the only beef I have with the smaller Scrappers, the handles are a bit small for my big mitts. But the "mudder" fits me like a glove. The Mud Mutt. I like it!

I'm sure the people at Scrapyard are wonderful people, but this is getting ridiculous. If you have a business and your product is delayed by several months, you should contact your customers and tell them. Everyone talks up the Busse family of knives, but they are NOT DOING US A FAVOR BY SELLING TO US. We are their customers. They WORK for US. Now I'm trying to contact someone from scrapyard to let them know my new CC number and the emails are bouncing. If you were buying from ANY other vendor, your order was months late, the only information is second or third hand messages on a forum and their email doesn't work, what would you think?

Hey- if anyone is out there listening, cancel my order.

Ah, the unacknowledged frustration grows. I don't think we're asking too much. And yes, I'm going to keep kicking this tire until I get an answer. Considering the company owner is a moderator of this forum, why can't he answer these questions?

According to Trash Can (their tech guy), as of yesterday morning, the emails should be working.

It's obvious that this DMDC release hasn't gone off as intended. Dan has posted that he's aware that it's been a much longer than expected, and that anyone may cancel their order who wants to. Although I understand your frustration, I'd suggest that you calm down a bit and then decide what you want to do. If you decide to cancel your order, then just send the email.

I've got no authority to tell you what to do, but what you say and how you say it are the only way most people here will know you, so you may want to consider how your words reflect on you. Being part of the Scrap Yard community requires a bit of patience -- Scrap Yard is still a fairly young company that's trying different approaches to selling their products. There have been technical and communication issues, plus Blade is a big enough deal that they had to do something for it, which impacted the DMDC production schedule, but Dan will make the second batch. I guess what I'm trying to say is that, whether it's personal, business, or an online forum, you should probably avoid saying things in a way that may damage relationships; a little courtesy under adverse conditions doesn't cost you anything, but it tends to yield a positive return.

J37 - Dan is indeed the "original" moderator of this forum, but as the fledgeling business took off, he needed help with the forum so he could devote more time to making knives. That is why he asked ColdOne and me to act as moderators, freeing him up to attend to business. He tries to catch up on the forum whenever he can. I mentioned before that he is aware of the frustration of a few of our fellow Dogs and that he is working on it. Difficult as it is, please be a little more patient. Tom

to take the spot of a cancelee and happily wait for my blade!

No seriously, if there IS open slots I want one and would love to wait!

Do you think I could e-mail Patti and see?

Peace.

It's not the fact that the order is delayed. They are a small business, Ok. They moved, fine. They had the blade show, understandable. They can't find the time to send out an email? Why do I have to lurk on message boards to get some half-a$$ status reports? At what stage in the production are they? How much longer do they expect it to be? These are things that should come from an employee of the company. I'm not trying to be inflammatory, just saying what I think.

PoP-

i canceled my order, so i know there is at least one spot.

i understand the frustration here. i asked patti directly for an update and was IGNORED as she answered other questions. in the same thread, dan answered other questions, and mine continued to be IGNORED.

NOT COOL

so i canceled.

I am waiting on my order from the 1st release. Maybe there are no more. I believe an update on availability would be appropriate.

I'm new to this forum, and from what I can see, this is a good group of people, and everyone tries really hard to get along with everyone else. This isn't exactly an antagonistic crowd, and I'm certain that any word would be readily received with open arms.

So I too, am puzzled as to why a company rep hasn't come on here with an explanation for the delay.

First post, the DMDC is going to be my first SY knife (got a handful of Busses and a few Rats)...I have to admit I've been through all the stages on this one...

1) Nervous as you hear the Hogs/Rats/Dogs shuffling around the trough as the time draws near
2) Panic when the hammer drops
3) Giddy as soon as you receive the confirmation
4) Anxious for a few days as you wait for your card to get dinged
5) Mildly disappointed when the package fails to arrive the next day
6) Confusion and self-doubt..."Did I do something wrong? Is this my fault?"
7) Growing bitterness turning to mild anger as you hear nothing.
8) Acceptance when you realize that "What will be will be". It is not for us to know WHEN, we must only KNOW we will be taken care of in the end
....
(hopefully soon...)
....

9) Enlightenment when the blades arrive and you realize they were worth the wait.

yeah, do what i do and wait with eager irritation.

if i wasn't a business student i wouldn't be so irate. had to plant that in the soil of philosophy, which was my undergrad major and made me an idealist. perfect storm.

Heavy I understand your (and everyone else's) frustration. I support the decision of everyone who has given up and canceled their order. I got lucky and got mine in the first run. Dan and Patti are good people and if I was still waiting for mine it wouldn't bother me. I've had this same problem with another very well know knife company....twice!! You would know them instantly by name if I named them. My point is this happens to everyopne at least once. Hang on if you can......it will be worth it!

Now since you can't remember what they look like here is a picture of mine at work......or maybe I should say at play....

Ya this whole thing is a shame. I am sure there is a reason for this. The thing that stinks is I know how good these knives are and the people here. I ordered a DMDC for a friend and he was very pumped, and then I had like ten friends asking about SYKW. But now because of this all those people are like whats up with that place, not fullfilling orders and no word on whats up. I dont think this will make or break the yard but word spreads fast and there can be reprocusions over some thing small. It would be fixed if we just got a sentenced of whats up. I will stay ether way but the people I lead to the yard probably wont.
Sorry for the long post, I am kinda a watcher or listen but thought I would say something. Life goes on though right.
Thanks

I got my DCDM but I'm going through the same thing with another small knife maker. I really understand how frustrating it is. I'm also waiting for a second one I ordered and paid through Paypal, but it's not as pressing since I have one. Hang in there. Dan and Patti will get to you.

Guys - time for a few of you to "clean up your act"!! I have said before that I fully understand the anger and frustration some of you are going through, but being derogatory and downright nasty is NOT going to solve the problem!! I don't know why more information has not been forthcoming - I suspect that Dan and Patti are out of town as he mentioned it in one of the other threads. When they read the posts they will immediately see how frustrated some of you are, and I suspect they will try to make things right for you. In the meantime, please help return the forum to the usual friendly place that it has been. I don't ENJOY being the "heavy", but I will be if the nasty posting continues. If you have a problem with that, send me a PM and we can discuss it privately.

Tom

Yeah, I ship out a week from tomorrow for the annual combat training. My guess is that I'm not going to have it for this two-weeks of "fun in the sun".

If I'm lucky, it won't come while I'm gone, and get turned back :-(
Well, I'm back. And I didn't get shot even once LOL!

The guy with the training knife had some fun with me though :-( Anyone that thinks they can get a pistol into action before a guy with a knife can close significant distance needs to try it!

Since my credit card doesn't appear to have taken a hit, I'm gonna guess the DMDCs are still going out?

Someone please tell me that I'm still gonna get mine!
