To me using religion to justify an evil act is one of the worst forms of cowardice. It is a method of removing the responsibility for the evil from oneself and either placing the blame on your victim and/or your religious teachings thereby removing the evil
I agree with everything you said except the last four words.
I don't think that it is removing the evil, just YOUR responsibility. The evil is still there, but you have removed the act, the blame of being evil from yourself.
I don't think the evil is removed, it is just the attempt of the person doing it. By saying it is god's law, he is trying to say it is not evil but good.
