I don't think the Poll options capture the entire picture.
The secondary market is a great thing and an inate right of any owner....especially in a democracy.
There are however points which apply seperately to it and which involve the manufactures....particularly with Busse-kin knives...and which relate to business....their business...and that is if you sell a product in high demand at what price do you sell for? The family clearly look to sell at a fair price......
Then this opens the door to some who buy up all they can and sell this on at a not so fair price....
My view is that limiting purchases of stock by way of the numbers able to be bought in bulk by an individual would be a good thing....sure enable someone to buy two or three...a user and one for a collection or buy a different colour combination....
But if you have an approach to buy 100% of your stock by 5% of the probable customer base....then you know these are destined to be re-traded for a profit by the parties doing the buying....so either the manufacturer is missing a potential extra profit margin or knows that the "fair" method they are working towards is going to be usurped by the secondary "traders"....who are simply buying to create scarcity and turn a profit...or buying with the knowledge that if they can get them there will be a profit....and in the certainty that if they don't someone else will....in that sense therefore ...the only control can really come from the supplier.
If Dan pitches at a fair price....instead of marking them up to Forum Exchange prices....then why not look to ensure that 100% of the customer base has a chance to benefit from being able to buy the knives? Or charge more so that the business can grow to fulfil the true demand ?
I am not a fan of people bulk buying so they get their knives for free at others expense and probably more cash on top as well.....not when the "family" of makers are selling at fair prices which could easily be increased....to me that just stops guys who would like to own the knives for what they were meant for....such as use in the Armed Services...of either getting a knife or of affording a knife.
Someone posted a thread a while back as to what knives were being carried by US and UK troops In Iraq and Afghanistan? Lets also not forget our other allies as well such as the Cz troops and the Canadians and anyone else playing a role...these guys are putting it on the line and are not well paid...the "fair" prices are good for them if they can get a good knife...the secondary market often even refuses to sell outside CONUS and increases the prices...which is not good for them or anyone else who has a deserving case to be a user.
I thought a guy wanting a DMDC was a sniper I had met in Cz and whilst it turns out he is not the same guy....I am still getting him a knife and pants for what it costs me....these guys are not often able to get equipment or easily afford it.....it is the same with Nightforce Scopes and other gear which is better than issued kit....my point being that if the "family" are selling their knives "fairly".....is it right for customers to ignore their sentiments and just "profiteer" from it all ? I don't think so.
