Back carry is not convenient. Almost no one in history carried swords on their back. Movies and books don't count. It's almost impossible to resheath once you draw it and if it's a long sword, you better have really long arms to draw it in the first place. There were a few groups of SE Asians that had short swords strapped to their back historically, but they are the only ones I'm aware of. No, they were not ninjas either.
