My impression is that 'modern' piston driven guns and especially ar15 uppers are a perceived answer to a problem that isn't very prevent. I guess I see them mostly as a fad instead of as a true revolution. Perhaps its an incremental evolution.

I don't own an ar15 but do own a su16 which is piston driven. Weight, less 'military looking' and price were the factors leading me to its purchase.
