I remember reading somewhere that "double cut" is pretty much like a bead blasted finish. Is that correct?

At $10.00 over the cost of the original DM with a double-cut finish and standard small Res-C handle, the DMDC is arguable the best deal Scrap Yard knives has ever made. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" /> I don't "need" another 5" knife either. But I'm not an idiot. My only regret is that I'll only be able to buy one of them. wow. I just got back my custom kydex from Rainwalker for my Mod. I love that knife. I wish that the mod didn't have the serations though. i'm not a huge recurve fan but the recurve of the mod is very subtle. Wait. What. A DMDC? Perfect. Now I'm only wondering if the DMDC will fit in my MOD sheath.

can someone remind me about the urban? was that a full flat grind? but it was sage? or was it double-cut-ish?

I just tried to fit the Urban Mutt in a custom MOD sheath and because of it's thicker handle, I doesn't fit very well, however it should fit the store kydex with some adjustments.

Oh well, guess i'll need some new kydex as well. I'm assuming you're going to pick up one right? Please?

besides if i put the DC in the Mod sheath, where would i put the mod?

Right you are, Tom. I read a post on BF once that I can't seem to find right now. IIRC, the post said that a double-cut blade is first sand-blasted and then bead-blasted. If there's a concern with double-cut blades, it's that blasting the blade introduces microscopic "pores" into the blade surface that could promote corrosion. Keeping the blade clean, dry and protected should be sufficient to prevent it from corroding, however.

Thanks Vic, I've been using the tuf-cloths for a few months now thanks to your prior recommendations in previous posts.

Bruce, in a perfect world tools would be cleaned right after use. When I get home from a camping trip the first thing I do is unpack everything, inspect it then clean and lube what needs cleaning and lubing, however, if I spend a day hiking into a secret trout spot, spend a day fishing and another day hiking out I go in with as little gear as possible. If it starts to drizzle halfway through the first day and continues off and on the next two my equipment isn't going to get a proper cleaning until I get back. I love my Scrap Yard Knives and believe they are the best knife made period. At the same time I want a knife that will handle the above situation and clean up from it when I get back. That means nothing more than a little surface rust that will easily come off when I get home.

Just remember though that a little rust is only cosmetic and will not affect the performance of the blade !!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

nick, you're on crack. if you smear enough petroleum jelly on a blade, it won't matter what it's coated with, and it'll cut just fine. I'm just used my yard hook to cut some doughnuts in half so I could fill them with cheeze whiz, no problem.

And who wants petroleum gelly on there food? Or Cheez Whiz in there doughnuts for that matter.

I don't think I've ever had a knife get rust on it... except on time I put my kershaw scallion through the washer...
