i wouldnt write swamprat of just yet.

i push my knives pretty hard.i've had more problems with S7 than i've had with SR101.when i'm going to be doing hard chopping i use my BR instead of my DFLE even though the DFLE feels better to me in the hand and the main reason is that i find S7 to be "soft" do to the many easily dinged up and rolled edges i've gotten just doing normal wood chopping and batoning chores.its this "softness" as i call it that lets it bend all the way in half and makes it so resistant to high impact and shock.malleable is probably a better term than "soft".SR77 is much more malleable than SR101 at the risk of sounding like an internet expert.

these here are jerry's words themself.......

"Steels with high wear resistance normally score fairly low in shock resistance, lateral strength, and overall toughness. INFI scores very high in ALL of these categories."

SR101 is known for its high wear resistance.none of this is anything anyone here doesnt already know.

i have the same hunch as vic that the diff. heat treat came up into the tip there and was therefore more brittle that the rest of the blade but even then its pretty beefy there so i have to wonder if its a fluke of some sort.

while not as far in the tip came off the S6 in noss's escapade with that blade.

idk,i love swamprat, scrapyard and busse.anything can go wrong with either one and has.i give each new blade a fair and thorough beating/workout when it arrives so that any kinks can be worked out ahead of time.

didnt the tip break off a SFNO or ASH-1 about a month ago too???
