as soon as they started talking .220 I lost interest. I don't have a DFLE but I do have a battlerat and it was my favorite until I got an NMSFNO. My NMSFNO definitely outchops the battlerat but I'll still admit that anything better than the battlerat isn't really necessary. I think any Busse trinity 8+ and 6.5- pair and a folder would give you an ideal blade for just about anything. My favorites now though are the SS4, S5LE, and NMSFNO.
How hard is that Hossum to sharpen? I have an Extrema Ratio Golem in N690 but I've never used it for anything. Is it a Forester or a custom?
The Hossum's are both customs, one in CPM154, the other in S30V, the later is the lightest at 17 oz and the one I use...the other is a backup although I have a colleague who insists I loan it to him if we go to Africa...so it won't stay mint for long. The S30V knife has just been stropped to keep the edge....do this after every use at the end of the day....saves time in the long run using a sander....the blade has a lot of curves...not as bad as a Khukri...but you would need to be careful using the belt sander to get the angle and hand movements right....a leather strop though works well and is safe from causing damage....
Interesting to hear a new arguement from Bruce....last time I was on he was for saying SR101 in the S5 was all you needed in a small knife and spending more for a S5LE was not necessary...
I tend to go with that but got the S5LE because it was Satin and I like my small knives to be Satin for food prep work...and I was happy to buy it in Infi...I use it on my PFD for canoeing....the Muddy grip is great when wet and Infi works like a good stainless steel...which my RMD does not. Might sell my back up RMD which is still painted...the S5LE gets nearly all the use when I am not using a Bushcrafter...and between them they do it all. Infact I might sell my stripped RMD as well. Got to love the S5LE IMO...and it will be WAY lighter than the smaller Boss Street which is thicker and has a load of needless steel in the tang....and lets be honest here...you ain't breaking a S5LE unless you set your mind to doing just that.
