In both cases, that larger point seems largely lost. The point of Christianity was to say that the last and great sacrifice had been completed. That man could avail himself of THAT sacrifice and be made clean, or at one with God once more. So, does man need a Savior? I believe he certainly does. But I understand not everyone shares that.
