I guessed that you would like the "high tech" version of the Nessmuk, Dan. I like your modified Ontario skinner version as well. Taking an old design and producing it with modern materials has its appeal, too. For me, this is the boldest and most exciting small knife offered by the Yard. Dan Busse rolled the dice on this one. This is not a hard core door breaching combat knife like we are used to in the Yard. It is an outdoorsman's knife, suitable for a variety of real world survival tasks and ordinary kitchen use.

Plus One, Vic! As much as I love big choppers and other great outdoor and great blades of a more main stream orientation, it's cool to see Dan offer something that will fill a slightly more unique slot in our cutting needs.

A 12 gauge shotgun loaded with alternating slugs and buckshot would be the firearm of choice for such a close encounter.

I disagree. If you are within 12 gauge range with a grizzly bear, its all over at that point. Take your 870 and fire away at the grizzly Klink. You wont live to tell about it.

I based my post on published reports of what many Game Wardens and Park Rangers use when called upon to go after wounded and dangerous bears. After all, NOTHING speaks louder than actual experience!
For hunting bears AT A DISTANCE a high-powered rifle would certainly be first choice. But up close and personal - I will believe what the folks with actual experience rely on.

I'm with you Tom. If I ever was in that situation which I hope I never am... A good 12 gauge with 00 buck and slugs would be my first choice, maybe with a good Dirty Harry 44 to back it up!

BTW, Years ago my cousin did find himself facing just such a predicament, he used to live in Alaska, went on a hunting trip, and was charged by a large Brown Bear. Luckily even though he was not there to hunt Bear, he grabbed his rifle and dropped the bear before it got to him and his hunting partners.
