Steel Fan, I thought about having a coonan with a longer barrel as well. I saw a picture on gb with longer barrels and compensators but I think I'd be happy just knowing I have the extra bit over the revolver myself. i would like to have the option to thread the barrel if I should ever pick up a suppressor and a lever action in .357/.38 like I intend. I think they would make for a really quite combo with .38 special and a good hunting combo with .357.

and here's a picture I spotted on gb if you need a few ideas.

I kind of hope they decide to bring back the cadet as well.

Many thanks for the photo Lazi ... of those pictured I like the top left and second in from the bottom right ... but I would prefer removing the front blade sight from the slide and attaching a Novak diode front sight to the compensator with adjustable Novak rear sights ... this would give a fixed front sight when the pistol cycles and is an advantage in tracking the sight when rapid firing ...

When I went for a Sig P210 back in the 80's I went for the target model having had the oppertunity of shooting both for this reason ...

The sights were'nt the best for carry use and later I sent it to Novak for a set
of their diode sights which I highly rate and got them to do a 1911 mag release modification ... then later on I had a custom pistolsmith over here do a compensator attachment to the front sight mount which is detachable ... back then that was one of the first tricked up Sig's done and I did well with it ... it also worked excellently as a carry pistol and has great "balance" ...

Recently when I found the mag changes were just slowing me down too much and I went for the Czechmate the modifications I have done are the same ...

Take off the slide which has the mounts for the optics and use the slide with normal rear sights changed to Novak's and the front sight I have attached to the compensator ... I prefer shooting the pistol this way as it works fine like this as a carry pistol if need be and using normal sights is second nature for me now and changing to an optic sight would throw me ... I shoot much better this way too ...

Now using the Coonan as a base model or buying one of the two in the pic you found would give a very similar set up ... ideal really ... but as the Coonan has a cammed barrel operation akin to the 1911 I think you would need to be looking at an expensive light weight ceramic silencer for it if you were to avoid jams from the weight of the silencer affecting the camming action ... there are plenty of people I am sure who could do that sort of work though ... and having it interchangeable with the screw threads for a compensator sounds a great idea ... especially if you have the .38 special conversion spring so it can cycle on lighter rounds ... a good silencer would keep the .38+ rounds it is designed for under the 1140 fps so there would be no sonic crack when fired ...

I have this same set up for the Czechmate in the pipeline but am using one of the extra barrels supplied with it for the project as that barrel would need to stay in the UK as the Swiss are not yet "sound moderator/health and safety" conscious as we are over here. I am speaking to my Police Firearms Dept to see if I can switch the pistol on my ticket for Deer dispatching to the Czechmate on the basis it simply would save extra hassle of two pistols ... and we will see what the say ... they are'nt keen on civi's having military calibre's for this sort of thing with high capacity mag's ... but there is case law allowing them.

Pesonally though if I was Stateside and had access to custom pistolsmiths ( our's went overseas or out of business when the ban came in ) I would look at altering the Coonan to bring the weight of the fixed front sight nearer to the camming action and thus reduce the risk of a stoppage ... it would also benefit fitting a silencer too as the mechanical leverage force would be less than on a longer barrel position ... I would try and replicate the work done to this Limcat Custom Comp pistol ... it has the fixed front sight mount dovetailed into the slide ... very nice work but very expensive too ...

This model is their "Wildcat Perfect Sight" model and I really like the features ... done in .40 S&W but available in other calibres ... however when you compare the price of these to the Czechmate and all the extra barrels/slides/sights which come with it you sharp realise what a comparative bargain the Czechmate is ... especially if as overhere in Europe 9mm is the main claibre for ISPC comps ... in fairness both of these are "very expensve" but I would rather own "one" top end pistol than a "number of pistols" where the final total is the same ... it's just a personal preference ... some like more variety ... and each is good ... and compared to the cost of the Limcat Custom's you could have a very effective Coonan for quite a fair bit less ... and those Coonan's shoot very accurately <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />
