Totally agree about not being an operator, LOL. I'm closer to needing to be operated on, haha.

I can only think of one situation where I'd be outside with a light, and that's looking for a prowler. The light needed for that is a personal choice. When I'm checking my house (outside) I do so with a holstered handgun and handheld flashlight.

Otherwise the only way I see needing an outdoor light is:

A) if you have livestock and a predator issue;
B) social breakdown.

The latter warrants a AA light since CR123 resupply could be tricky for us non-operators. A solar or handcrank AA charger can be found for $50...and will keep the night from being spooky until well after you've exhausted your ammo supply.
