My impression of the Humanitarian Daily Ration (HDR)
The objective of the HDR provided by the United States is to provide enough food for a civilian for 24 hours. The ration has a high caloric value and is Kosher, halal and vegetarian. That’s right no meat; however, some meals have soy protein added to mimic meat.
The rations are packed 10 to a case and weigh over 2 lbs each. IIRC, MREs weighed less than that.
The rations are individually sealed and then contained in a heavy duty plastic pouch along with a plastic spoon and some condiments.
There is no heater or water supplied. Unlike MREs, there are no beverages supplied. The meals can be eaten cold as is or be heated.
I’ll try the ration pack tomorrow and (if I’m able to) give a review the following day.
