Randy, if Ray has an extra 12 volt battery and a power inverter he should still be able to use his grinder ; he just has to match the wattage with the inverter. A solar panel would keep his battery charged as well.
I have 3 heavy duty 12 volt batteries for my ham radio gear and an inverter but never got around to setting up a solar charger.
VA7 BGR here I don't have a shack, but I do have a few Ht's and a TYT 9800 in my truck. Maybe when I retire I will have time for a shack and an HF setup
