The various 6.5 and 6.8 rounds were the latest fad. Unfortunately, they are superior to the ubiquitous 5.56x45 round, but the military's lack of interest relegated them to wildcat status. Until mass wholesale quantities of a particular ammo is available on an ongoing basis (5.45x39 I'm looking at you) I'll stick with 5.56x45 and 7.62x51.
