Only deer I ever killed was with a model 94 Winchester 30-30 (NO it wasn't the first year they were made). But it was 44 years ago. I also though prefer the .308. I've had 30-30, 308, 30-06 Just like the short action and versatility of the 308. It can do Sand dogs all the way up to just about anything.
