Thats a rough one. Some nursing homes are great. Others are horrible horrible places. Prayers for your Mom.


I am trying out dry canning. I never tried it before and thought I would give it a shot. Pinto beans, Rice and flour are my first victims. I would try a few others but canning jars are like hens teeth right now. Depending on who you ask if it's done right, it shifts the shelf life anywhere bewteen 15 and 30 years.

Plus I'm vacume packing some of the same stuff. I figure I will break some of the flour out each year and see how it works. I'll use that as my yard stick to see if it is worth it. Rice and beans tend to stay decent if stored dry and cool anyway.
