Her mother was Ukrainian and saw herself as the matriarch of the family, that had the right to run everyone's lives.
Pauline would spend 3 days to a week before every special occasion cooking/cleaning at her mothers place so that she could have a big family dinner (her mother couldn't do it) her sister who lived at home did nothing, but n the day of the dinner the pair of them acted like they did it all.
