Tuesday about 0300 Patty's throat started swelling on her again. So off we go to the ER to get the shots that have always taken care of it. They gave her the shots as they always have and sure enough about 20 minutes later she was right as rain. They kept her another 30 minutes just to make sure and they let us come home.

Well about 3 1/2 to 4 hours after getting home she woke up again with her throat swelling up on her. This has never happened before. So off we to to the largest town in this section of the state (about 25 miles in the OTHER direction). We got to the ER and the desk lady rung the nurse to take her back. 10 minutes later (now mind you there was NO ONE else there!)they took her back and got her vitals and told her to WAIT OUT FRONT TO GET REGISTERED! We waited about another 10 minutes and finally told the desk lady we were leaving.

We went to the OTHER hospital in town and within 5 minutes of walking in the ER door she was seeing a doctor!

They took some blood, and asked if it had happened before and we told him that before they had always given her a Benedryl and Steroid shot and it had stopped. BUT that we had just been to the ER about 7 hours earlier. Well they give her the shots and took X-rays of her throat and said it was swollen all the way down.

They admitted her by about 11am and kept her until about 5pm the following evening continually pumping her with steroids (and insulin because the steroids were driving her sugar up over 500) every 8 hours.

So I didn't go to work Tuesday night, Wednesday night cause the Hospital said she really didn't need to be alone the first night back home and again tonight because the Chief Dispatcher said she had my shift covered tonight and that Patty as probably scared and I would probably want to be home one more night with her. She was right.

SO, how has YOUR week been going?
