i wouldnt say he reg failed......... the edge might have a little.
While I wouldn't say that SR-101 is prone to chipping by any means.....it certainly is possible under the right conditions. SR-77 probably would have faired better here but either way you're making a trade off of toughness vs edge holding.
Very true. I had my Dog Father and B-11 with me too and did just as much chopping with them. I was able to strop those edges out. I guess it's a matter of preference, but I'd rather a steel that needs to be sharpened more frequently that is less prone to chipping. SR-101 is a fantastic steel, but I prefer SR-77 (and INFI of course) to 101 on choppers.
