To me using religion to justify an evil act is one of the worst forms of cowardice. It is a method of removing the responsibility for the evil from oneself and either placing the blame on your victim and/or your religious teachings thereby removing the evil
I agree with everything you said except the last four words.
I don't think that it is removing the evil, just YOUR responsibility. The evil is still there, but you have removed the act, the blame of being evil from yourself.
