The purpose is to redirect most of the force from the blade to the handles rather than the locking system. I don't know if this is true, just what CS says.

I know what a lot of folks say about CS, but they do test their knives. The hollow grind is not what I would use for a chopper. I like the blade shape. I will test it when they become available at reasonable prices. I plan to put it up against the Benchmade Skirmish. We will see how tough it is. I will post the comparo over on BF. A large folder that could do what a fixed blade can do is my dream knife.
