Cool Tree. The only one I have messed with was just a round pipe and the disks were welded onto a bar and another pipe rotated around the central pipe. Crude and homemade, but it worked.

I would be concerned that over time the leather may come apart somewhat if you just butt it up against the other piece. Now IF you lined it with a single piece glued to all the outside pieces, that probably wouldn't be a concern.
