Think I'll go with an 18" when the time comes. Seems to be a good compromise between velocity and portability. Heavy fluted 1:8 twist stainless midlength with a 15" thin quad or combo rail and a nickel boron or melonited bcg. No sense wasting weight on a rail for a gun I'll be heaving around for half a mile.

I have a 16" M4 profile upper with a 15" quad from Hardened Arms that seems to shoot well. It's set up as a bug out or home defense gun with a Strikefire and a Bumpfire Stock with a competition muzzle brake (more for fun than practicality, I guess grin ). Stays on target fairly well at short range when shooting 2-5 round bursts. Maybe I should sell that set up and buy my upper and be done with it. 223, 300 BLK, 6.5 Grendel, 458 SOCOM...now I just need a 7.62x39 and a 6.8 SPC to complete the collection grin
