I have only two rifles with a heavy barrel. One is a Colt HBAR and the other is a bolt action. Both are in .223. As far as I can tell, the Colt is not, for me at least, significantly more accurate than a stock rifle. The varmint rifle is in .223 and has a heavy barrel. At the time, I went with an undulated barrel because I was unable to find any advantage to a fluted barrel other than weight savings. Since I wasn’t concerned with weight and the fluted barrel was more costly, I decided against it. I also thought that if a fluted barrel cools off more quickly than an unfluted one, it should also heat up more quickly. The spiral fluted barrels look very cool at any rate so it’s up to you. While the flutes may not be a big advantage, I couldn’t find any big disadvantage either. Sorry I couldn’t be more help. Let us know what road you go down.
