it was a target rifle, not a war rifle. after owning one i see why, impossible bolt to disassemble/reassemble, 1907 model would kill you if you put back together wrong and the loading mechanism can clog easily. fun to shoot though.
iirc the original ammo was paper hulled as well

well the big part was it cloggin with mud in the trenches. to load, you pull down the lever on the right side of the handguard, which lowers a spring loaded floorplate, into a large magazine compartment and you then just drop the five rounds in. this would clog with mud making is useless
